Draft beer beats bottles and cans in US On Premise as consumers’ preferences shift

The exclusive Draft Beer Report provides a comprehensive guide to the latest trends and developments in the sector, which is now worth $21.8bn a year. There are currently around 1.5 million draft lines in the US—more than triple the number since the early 1980’s.

Data from CGA by NIQ’s market-leading suite of On Premise measurement solutions shows draft attracts 52.3% of all out-of-home beer volumes in the US—compared to packaged beer’s share of 47.7%—and delivers a significantly higher average value velocity. High consumer demand has led to an 8.1% rise in draft beer’s distribution points in the last 12 months—more than triple the 3.5% increase of packaged. While draft sales by value fell by 2.0% in the last year, this is lower than the 2.6% drop in packaged.
